High-Gain Phased Array Antenna With Endfire Radiation for 26 GHz Wide-Beam-Scanning Applications

In this communication, a high-gain phased array antenna with wide-angle beam-scanning capability is proposed for fifth-generation (5G) millimeter-wave applications. First, novel, endfire, dual-port element dual functionalities of radiator and power splitter designed. The composed substrate integrated cavity (SIC) dipole based on it. resonant frequencies the SIC can be independently tuned to broaden impedance bandwidth. Based element, four-element subarray easily constructed without resorting complicated feeding network. endfire features broad beamwidth over 180°, high isolation, low profile, rendering it suitable applications in H-plane. addition, methods steering radiation pattern downward or upward E-plane are investigated. As proof concept, two antennas each consisting eight subarrays designed fabricated achieve broadside radiation. Thanks elimination surface wave, mutual coupling between reduced improving scanning angle while suppressing sidelobe level. experimental predictions validated by measurement results, showing that beam scanned up 65° loss only 3.7 dB grating lobe less than -15 dB.
